Call for Papers



13-15 December, 2012


TESOL Sudan is accepting proposals for its Third International Conference commencing on December 13-15, 2012 in Khartoum, Sudan (venue TBA). The deadline for submitting proposals is September 17, 2012.  


Conference Theme


“Inside the Classroom”




Priority will be given to proposals that discuss the pedagogical implications of the following sub-themes


  • The use of Literature
  • Drama in EFL contexts
  • Large Classes
  • Learner motivation
  • Teaching and learning the four skills
  • Grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation
  • Materials development
  • Assessment
  • Young learners
  • Teacher preparation and development
  • Sociopolitical and cultural contexts
  • Language planning and policy
  • Administration
  • Classroom management
  • Lesson planning
  • Classroom discourse

Proposals should incorporate the main theme and then indicate explicitly which sub-theme(s) will be addressed. Also, please indicate the specific format of the presentation:


a. A paper (35 minutes + 10 minutes Q&A);

b. A panel discussion (40 minutes + 10 minutes Q&A);

c. A workshop (60 minutes);

d. A teaching Tip (20 minutes + 10 minutes Q&A)


Guidelines for Participants


Please submit ONE file (.doc, .docx, .rtf, or .pdf) containing the following:


i. The presentation proposal (maximum of 300 words)

ii. contact info: name, current school/institution, phone #, and email address;

iii. bio-data (maximum of 30 words); and

iv. a title of 8 words or less and an abstract of no more than 50 words. The brief summary will be published in the conference program.


The proposal should be typed and single-spaced. Acronyms and/or abbreviations should be spelled out. Please submit the complete file as file attachments and do NOT include it in the main body of your
